Pitch Day

Did you know that the fastest growing faith demographic in Canada is those with no religious affiliation? Many assume that it is because people don’t care about making meaning out of their lives or that our culture is sliding away from a reverence for God. The reality is that our culture is changing fast, very fast. Without a comprehensive approach to reaching the next generation of Canadians, the church will sadly continue in its growing irrelevance.

Christ promised to build his church (Mtt 16:18). We want to be a part of that!

We believe that the ministries and churches that will reach our country in the next 30 years simply have not been built yet. We developed Summer for the City to mentor, support and equip the next generation of church ministry ventures. 

Each venture is intended to address a current social problem that the Gospel addresses. We are finding that those in the next generation have something to teach us about what outreach ministry to the next generation could look like.  So we invested into four inspiring young leaders this summer.  Here is what one supporter says about this opportunity that we are embarking on for the next generation of the church: 

“Much of the church is continuing with something that someone started 40 years ago. There is space for this! But, I am excited to take part in something that is beyond doing what we have always done with the church. Normally in congregations there is not a reward system for innovation. I see this as being an innovation. We need to be thinking about and investing into what the Church can be.”

Serving as a leader in the church can be difficult, full of obstacles and distractions from Jesus’ mission, but it can also be a glorious opportunity to invest into the lives of others and into Christ’s work. 

Let’s learn from the next generation of leaders as we imagine together what the church can be. 

What to expect from our hour together:

• Vision of Summer for the City (10 min)
• Opportunity to connect in small groups on Zoom (10 min)
• 4 pitches of innovative ministries (20 min)
• Opportunity to provide feedback and support (20 min)

If you see a venture as worthwhile, there will be opportunities to learn and grow together as stakeholders.  A stakeholder is someone who would like to stay in the loop on a ministry venture and could potentially help grow it (with time, skills, knowledge, financial support, etc.). There also will be an opportunity to make a donation to Summer for the City, but attending does not commit you to anything.  

Our prayer goal is that each person in attendance would walk away inspired with a greater imagination of what their own local church ministries could look like. Your engagement at Pitch Day will be a participation in Jesus' mission of overflowing his love and grace to the world!
