EAT. PRAY. STUDY. LOVE.

“Go and make disciples, teaching them to obey what I commanded”

Matthew 28

We long to be a group of people who are disciples and who are making disciples of Christ. The starting question is how do we make disciples not how do we run the church? An author once wrote “if you make disciples you will always get the church but if you build the church you won’t always get disciples”. So how do we make disciples?

We understand ourselves at the Village to be a family of families. Outside of Sunday morning, Missional families are the places where we seek to grow in deeper relationships with one another while serving together in places of need.  This most often involves meeting in each others homes, eating together, praying together, serving together, reflecting on scripture together and caring for one another.  We believe that being the family of God on mission together closely resembles the New Testament model of the early church.

Each missional (family) group takes on a life of its own like an actual family, however each group has the same practices:

  • Eating together
  • Praying together
  • Studying together
  • Serving together
  • Accountability

Currently, at The Village Church, we have the following Missional Families:

1) Front Street Missional Family
This is a group of people who meet at Tim Hortons in downtown Thorold to do life together. Our vision is to demonstrate the way of Jesus to the people in the Tim Hortons through the way we treat one another and those around us. We are currently focusing on one spiritual discipline each month (i.e. prayer, generosity, fasting, etc.).

2) Prince of Wales Missional Family
The POW Missional Family is a group of people who exist as an extension of the Village Church with a desire to know God, serve Him, and make Him known. Our missional practices include: ‘growing up’ and deepening our relationship with God, ‘growing in’ as we love, care and support one another, ‘growing out’ as we serve together with the community of Prince of Wales School to build meaningful relationships.

3) Merritton Missional Family
The Merritton Missional Family is a group of people dedicated to growing our relationship with God, caring and supporting one another and serving the Youth For Christ / Merritton Community.

4) Understanding the Bible Together Missional Family
This group seeks to better understand the Bible and they consider prayer as very important for their relationship with God. They meet every two weeks on Sunday evenings for fellowship, conversation, Bible study and prayer.
