Our Story

In 2007, a small group of believers began prayer walking through Niagara, asking God where He might be calling them to plant a new work of His Spirit. After prayer and study, all signs pointed to Thorold. With faith and courage, several families sold their homes across Niagara and moved to this city—ready to plant roots and do just about anything to share Jesus Christ and his transformational love with the community.
From park cleanups to coaching the Thorold High School football team, from running grief support groups to delivering flowers to neighbours, from leading Community Care food drives to simply being a stable presence for neighbours at Prince of Wales Public School and the downtown Tim Hortons—each act was an offering of service to this community we call home. Our heart has always been captured in one phrase: “Here to Serve.”
What began with seeking God in prayer continues with seeking God in prayer. Step by step, we’ve sought to stay in step with the Spirit—learning together the way of Jesus as an intergenerational, intercultural family of faith. Today, our mission remains the same: to make Jesus Christ known in Thorold and beyond, through being a community that shines with the presence and power of God.

Together, we find great joy in serving others in every possible way. By extending our hands to those in need, we create a strong bond that not only helps individuals but also strengthens our community (Phil 2:4)

We strive to embody Christ's teachings in our daily lives, working to reflect His love, compassion, and guidance in everything we do, from our interactions with others to our personal growth. (Jn 20:21)

Pastor
Mark DeVos
I’ve been a pastor at The Village for eight years, and I love calling this place home. My wife and I have two beautiful girls who keep our lives busy and full of laughter. I enjoy hiking, reading, and connecting with people—especially over a good cup of coffee. My favorite thing about The Village is seeing people discover how real and life-changing God’s love is.

I love welcoming people into my home, always with delicious food ready... if not a cup of coffee! I enjoy walks with my dog, spending time with family, and connecting with friends. What I love most is creating a space where people feel they truly belong and can explore life and faith together.

I’m passionate about serving small non-profits and finding ways to make things better, all while working on my MBA. I love Jesus and want to share His love in a way that’s clear, simple, and meaningful. I’m excited to help others experience God’s love in everyday life and see the difference it can make.
